Entrepreneur Richard Rothschild and Mother Face Possible Jail Time Over Unpaid Divorce Settlement in London

In a dramatic turn of events, the ex-wife of a wealthy businessman is pushing for jail time for both her former husband and his mother.

Charmaine De Souza is claiming that Richard Rothschild and his mother, Wanda Radziszewska, owe her nearly £750,000 from their divorce settlement. This legal battle has been ongoing since their separation in 2016 after a 21-year relationship.

Richard Rothschild, a 49-year-old entrepreneur, has been engaged in a fierce legal struggle with De Souza.

The conflict initially erupted in 2018 when Rothschild, who had recently moved his new girlfriend, American Playboy model Sherra Michelle, into their Miami condo valued at £2.3 million, faced backlash.

The High Court made a ruling in 2019 that allocated £1.73 million to De Souza while Rothschild was left with £634,000.

Financial Woes and Legal Consequences

Rothschild later claimed financial ruin, citing the sale of his Lamborghini and properties, and subsequently moved in with his mother. In 2019, both Rothschild and Radziszewska received suspended prison sentences.

Now, they may face incarceration again for allegedly obstructing the sale of a £1.225 million west London flat, a property meant to settle the divorce. De Souza stands to receive around £500,000 from the sale, but Radziszewska’s refusal to vacate the apartment has stalled the process.

Courtroom Drama and Financial Strain

De Souza’s legal team has argued that Rothschild and Radziszewska’s deliberate delays are causing significant financial strain.

They assert that the ongoing legal disputes have left De Souza burdened with debt and the mortgage on the property.

Despite being a full-time parent and business owner, De Souza is struggling under the weight of preparing legal documents and covering expenses.

The Bigger Picture

Rothschild and De Souza’s relationship began as students, and they married in 2005. They enjoyed a high-profile lifestyle with a Lamborghini and a luxury Miami Beach condo.

After their split in 2016, Rothschild moved his girlfriend into their former apartment, leading to a legal showdown over property division. The final 2019 ruling divided their assets, with De Souza receiving a substantial settlement.

Ongoing Legal Battles

Despite Rothschild’s attempts to challenge the fairness of the divorce ruling, his appeal was unsuccessful in 2020. The Court of Appeal upheld the decision, leaving Rothschild with minimal capital and significant debts.

His legal team had argued that the division was inequitable, but the court maintained that De Souza’s share was justified given the circumstances.
