Lagos Judge Orders Remand of Suspect Accused of Child Defilement”

Suspect Remanded for Alleged Child Defilement

Justice Abiola Soladoye of a Lagos Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court, Ikeja, Lagos, has remanded one Stephen Monday at a correctional centre.

This action follows allegations of him defiling his lover’s four-year-old daughter.

Plea and Remand

The judge made this decision on Thursday, September 29, 2023, after Stephen Monday pleaded not guilty to the charge of defilement of a minor brought against him by the state government.

Details of the Alleged Offence

During the defendant’s arraignment, the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Dr. Babajide Martins, presented the case.

He informed the court that the defendant committed the offence on February 14, 2021, at approximately 5:00 a.m., at No 5, Ayeloja street, Ikorodu area of Lagos State.

Nature of the Offence

The prosecutor detailed that the defendant had carnal knowledge of the four-year-old girl by inserting his penis into her vagina.

This act is in violation of the provision of Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

Next Legal Steps

Following Stephen Monday’s plea of not guilty, the DPP Martins requested a trial date. Consequently, Justice Soladoye remanded him in custody pending the perfection of his bail.
