Lagos State Chief Coroner Initiates Inquest into Mohbad’s Death
The Chief Coroner of the Lagos State Judiciary, Justice Mojisola Dada, has taken action by ordering an inquest to investigate the death of Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
This decision comes in response to a letter from the law firm, Falana and Falana Chambers, which raised concerns about the “very tragic” and “mysterious” circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s demise.
Inquest Proceedings Scheduled to Begin
Justice Dada’s directive specifies that the inquest will commence its proceedings at Magistrate Court 3, located in the Ademola Candide-Johnson Court in Ikorodu.
The starting date for the inquest has been set for Friday, September 29, 2023.
Law Firm’s Request for Transparency
In a letter dated September 18, 2023, addressed to the Chief Coroner of the High Court of Lagos State, the Falana and Falana Chambers had formally requested an inquest into Mohbad’s death.
Their aim is to uncover the circumstances surrounding this controversial incident.
Coroner’s Response to the Request
In response to the law firm’s inquiry, the coroner, Magistrate Taofikat Shotobi, stated that she had received directives from the Chief Coroner of Lagos State, Hon. Justice Mojisola Dada.
These directives are in accordance with the provisions outlined in Sections 14 and 15 of the Coroner’s System Law of Lagos State, Cap C15, Laws of Lagos State 2015.
Background on Mohbad’s Controversial Passing
Mohbad, the 27-year-old singer, passed away under controversial circumstances on September 12, 2023.
The decision to initiate an inquest aims to shed light on the circumstances surrounding his untimely demise and ensure transparency in the investigation.
