Clare Hodge Describes Horror of Son Left Behind by Nursery Staff at Wildlife Park in Scotland

In a turn of events that left a mother horrified, a four-year-old boy was forgotten on a nursery trip to a wildlife park for 40 minutes.

Clare Hodge revealed that her son, Carson Morhulec, was left crying near the toilets after the staff at Dunmore Nursery overlooked him while departing the Scottish Deer Centre in Cupar, Scotland, last Friday.

Carson, the last in line to use the restroom, emerged to find no one around.

Initially, he believed his classmates were playing a prank on him.

His return to his mother only happened after the Scottish Deer Centre staff found him and alerted the nursery.

Clare Hodge expressed her disbelief and anger on social media, emphasizing the negligence.

With three staff members responsible for just nine children, the oversight was inexcusable.

“The worst part for me was knowing they had a three-to-one ratio and still lost track of my son,” she shared.

Inadequate Precautions

Clare also highlighted the failed safety measures.

Despite a supposed robust risk assessment, the staff merely asked the children on the bus if everyone was present, accepting their collective “yes” without conducting an actual headcount.

This lapse in procedure left Carson stranded and in tears.

Official Response

Fife Council has confirmed that the Care Inspectorate is aware of the incident.

Shelagh McLean, the local authority’s head of service, issued a heartfelt apology to Carson and his family.

She assured that the incident is being taken very seriously, with an ongoing investigation to understand how this oversight occurred.

Moving Forward

McLean emphasized that immediate action was taken once Carson was noted missing, with the school contacting his parents and notifying the Care Inspectorate promptly.

While existing guidelines and procedures for school trips are robust, they will undergo a thorough review to identify any areas for improvement.

Until the investigation is complete and official proceedings are finalized, specific details and potential actions remain undisclosed.
