Hackett joined the health board in January 2021, during the initial wave of the Covid pandemic, and will officially depart at the end of August.

Hackett has been recognized for his role in implementing a reconfiguration of health services, a key aspect of which involves establishing “centres of excellence” at Morriston Hospital, Singleton Hospital, and Neath Port Talbot Hospital.

Morriston Hospital will now focus on urgent and emergency care, complex care, specialist care, and regional surgery.

Singleton Hospital will specialize in planned healthcare, women’s health, cancer care, and diagnostic tests.

Neath Port Talbot Hospital will serve as a center for orthopedic and spinal care, with a focus on rehabilitation and day surgery, among other services.

In a statement, Mr. Hackett expressed his admiration for the people, patients, and staff he has worked with during his time in Swansea Bay.

No specific reason was given for his departure, but it is understood that he cited family reasons in a message to all staff.

With over 20 years of experience as an NHS chief executive, as well as leadership roles in the NHS in England and healthcare consultancy, Mr. Hackett brought a wealth of expertise to his position.

He also highlighted the complexities surrounding discharging patients who were ready to go home but faced obstacles such as a lack of onward care options.
