Major Diesel Recovery Operation Unveiled at Langaville Clinic in Johannesburg

…By Roland Peterson for TDPel Media. On Thursday, May 25, 2023, around 22:00, officers from the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Anti-Cable Theft Task Team, in collaboration with Bidvest Security Services and Vodacom Risk Management Team, made a significant discovery at Langaville.

They found abandoned diesel at the location.

Assistance Requested by Bidvest Security Services and Vodacom Risk Management Team

While carrying out their law enforcement duties, the officers were approached by Bidvest Security Services and Vodacom Risk Management Team, who sought their assistance.

The security services alleged an ongoing operation where their generator’s refilled diesel would be stolen after replacement, with no apprehensions made thus far.

Recovery of Diesel at the Clinic

The EMPD officers, upon receiving the request for assistance, proceeded to an address provided by the security company, located on the corner of Phejane Street and Izilwane Street in Langaville.

Upon arrival, they immediately noticed a strong smell of diesel emanating from the clinic yard.

As they explored further, they discovered nine 25-litre containers filled with diesel and seven empty 25-litre containers in the clinic’s backyard, adjacent to the Vodacom Tower.

The recovered diesel was transported to Tsakane Police Station for safekeeping while awaiting further investigation.

The EMPD expressed their appreciation for the partnership with other stakeholders involved in cracking down on unlawful acts like this within the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE).

Cable Thief Arrested in Kempton Park

On the same day, May 25, 2023, around 11:15, the EMPD Anti-Cable Theft Task Team Officers arrested a 42-year-old male suspect near a taxi rank situated at the corner of Pretoria Road and Plane Street in the Kempton Park area.

The officers received information from a reliable source about a person seen carrying a cable and jumping over a wall near the taxi rank.

Responding swiftly, the officers found the male suspect sitting with a burning cable at the taxi rank.

They immediately apprehended him and took him into custody at Kempton Park police station.

The suspect is facing charges of tampering with essential infrastructure and is scheduled to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court in the near future.

Condemnation of Attack and Murder of Electrical Contractors

In a separate incident, the City of Ekurhuleni expressed its condemnation of an attack and murder of electrical contractors, highlighting the importance of maintaining a safe working environment for essential service providers.
