Winter Warning: Illinois Governor Pleads with Texas to Halt Migrant Transports
Humanity Over Politics:
As a biting winter storm threatens Chicago, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker has issued a heartfelt plea to his Texas counterpart, Greg Abbott, urging him to stop bussing migrants to his state.
With temperatures expected to plummet to -2°F on Saturday, Governor Pritzker warns that transporting vulnerable families and children under such conditions jeopardizes their safety and could have life-threatening consequences.
Freezing Welcome:
Many arriving migrants lack proper winter attire, making the impending storm even more perilous.
Governor Pritzker emphasizes the urgency of the situation, stating, “Please, while winter is threatening vulnerable people’s lives, suspend your transports and do not send more people to our state.”
Beyond Borders:
While acknowledging the challenges faced by border states, Governor Pritzker calls for a bipartisan approach to immigration reform.
He believes, “We should be able to come together in a bipartisan fashion to urge Congress to act.”
However, his primary concern at this moment lies in protecting human lives.
“But right now, we are talking about human beings and their survival.
I hope we can at least agree on saving lives right now.”
Political Theater or Practical Concern?
Pritzker accuses Governor Abbott of using the migrant crisis for political gain, suggesting, “You seem to have no interest in working on bipartisan solutions to the border crisis because that would put an end to your cruel political game.”
He appeals to Abbott’s humanity, hoping to override any political motivations and prioritize the well-being of individuals caught in the middle of this complex issue.
A History of Unannounced Arrivals:
Since 2022, Operation Lonestar has brought over 25,300 migrants to Chicago, often dropped off at “improper locations at all hours of the night” without warning.
Last month, an entire busload of migrants found themselves abandoned near an Illinois highway, highlighting the disarray and vulnerability created by this policy.
A Plea for Humanity:
Governor Pritzker’s letter concludes with a renewed plea for compassion and collaboration.
He reiterates, “As we grapple with the existing challenges of your ongoing manufactured crisis, the next few days are a threat to the families and children you are sending here.
I am pleading with you to at least pause these transports to save lives.”
