BREAKING: Xenophobia returns in South Africa, nationals clash with foreigners in Alexandra – See Videos

Scenes of xenophobic acts return to South Africa today in Alexandra. It’s understood that Operation Dudula supporters were involved in the scuffles.

The group is fiercely opposed to illegal immigration, and they claim to fight for the prioritisation of South Africans in the labour market. However, things got ugly this morning.

There have been reports of ongoing fights between the two factions. Debris was burned along the roadside, and bricks were thrown into the air, injuring a few people on the scene.

Plans to expel foreigners from their Pan Africa Mall enterprises did not proceed as planned. Many of the targeted foreigners remained firm, and authorities were unable to put down much of the rioting at first.

Most street vendors caught up in the violence are accused of working in South Africa illegally.

Multiple shops have been closed as a result of the running battles.

Whereas the Operation Dudula operatives argue they are trying to ‘put South Africans first’, their critics state that these grievances are purely based on xenophobia.

Sadly, statements like these do little to help preventing this situation from escalating further:
