Brandon Truter reveals how Richards Bay FC aims to integrate rising star Thando Buthelezi from Mamelodi Sundowns into the squad in Richards Bay

Brandon Truter, the head coach of Richards Bay FC, is gearing up to maximize the potential of a young star on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns, Thando Buthelezi.

With a mix of fresh talent and seasoned players, the club is setting its sights higher this season.

Strengthening the Squad with Fresh Talent

Richards Bay FC, also known as the Natal Rich Boys, has been proactive in bolstering their lineup.

By promoting several players from their Diski Challenge team and bringing in key figures from the transfer market, the team is building on the momentum they’ve gained.

The club’s focus is not just on experience but also on nurturing emerging talent.

A Rising Star in the Making

One of the standout additions is 21-year-old Thando Buthelezi, a loanee from Sundowns.

Both Sundowns and Truter believe that Buthelezi has the potential to make a significant impact in the Betway Premiership.

However, Truter acknowledges the challenges that come with developing a young player on loan.

“It’s always a delicate balance – do you focus on developing him for another club, or do you prioritize your own team’s interests?”

Truter remarked during a press event.

Despite this, he’s confident that Buthelezi’s talent will find its place on the field.

New Leadership and Ambitious Goals

Truter took over the coaching reins from Vusumuzi Vilakazi after the club faced a relegation scare last season.

Though the challenge is tough, Truter is no stranger to high expectations.

Reflecting on his preparation, he shared, “A lot has changed at the club, and I’ve spent the past year immersing myself in research, internships, and football games to be better prepared.”

Preparing for the Upcoming Season

Adapting to a team that recently fought through relegation play-offs and adjusting to a pre-season with little rest hasn’t been easy for Truter.

He’s also had to navigate the differences between his coaching style and that of his predecessor.

But despite these hurdles, Truter is pleased with the progress.

The team has welcomed new players like Thabiso Kutumela, Siyethemba Sithebe, Thabang Sibanyoni, Keegan Allan, and Tlakusani Mthethwa, all of whom bring fresh energy to the squad.

Eyes on the Top Eight

As the new season approaches, expectations are high.

Truter and the club are determined not to repeat last season’s struggles.

Aiming for a top-eight finish in the league, Truter remains ambitious, both for the club and for himself.

“I think it’s fair to set our sights on a higher position, not just for the supporters but for my personal goals as well,” he concluded.
