In a distressing turn of events, authorities searching for Gabriela Kosilko, a 26-year-old woman who disappeared while returning home from work, have uncovered a body in a wooded area.
Gabriela was last seen on August 31, shopping for groceries late at night at a store located on Fosse Road North in Leicester.
Her absence was reported the following day when she failed to return home after her night shift.
A Disturbing Development: Suspect Found Dead in Custody
Adding to the grim nature of the case, law enforcement officers have also reported the discovery of a man’s remains who had been arrested on suspicion of kidnapping and murdering Ms. Kosilko.
Shockingly, the man was found dead in his prison custody cell.
It is believed that the deceased man and Gabriela Kosilko were acquainted in some way, although the details of their relationship are not yet clear.
Independent Investigation Initiated
Amidst growing concerns and to ensure transparency, a mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), which has initiated an independent inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death while in police custody.
Authorities have pledged full cooperation with this investigation, emphasizing the need for a thorough examination of the situation.
A spokesman for the IOPC stated, “We have started an independent investigation following the death yesterday (Wednesday 6 September) of a man who was in police custody in Leicester.
“We understand the man, believed to be aged 30, was initially arrested by Leicestershire Police on Monday (4 September) on suspicion of kidnap and taken to Keyham Lane police station.
“We have been told that at around 10 am yesterday the man was found unresponsive in his cell and death was pronounced there a short time later.
“After we were notified by Leicestershire Police we sent investigators to the police station and the police post-incident procedure to begin gathering evidence, including custody footage and some initial accounts from officers and staff.
“We declared an independent investigation shortly before 12.30 pm.”
Ongoing Investigations and Community Support
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Sinski from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit Murder Investigation Team emphasized that inquiries into Gabriela’s tragic death are ongoing.
He urged anyone with information related to the case to come forward, especially if they were in the vicinity of Newtown Linford Lane around 2.20 pm on Friday, September 1.
Detectives are particularly interested in dashcam footage that may show a red Audi A1 parked along the road or any suspicious activities involving the vehicle.
Sinski also reassured the local community that officers will continue to be present in the area as further investigations unfold.
Authorities have called upon the public to assist in the case by contacting 101 and referencing incident number 484 of September 1, or alternatively by using the Public Portal (mipp.police.uk) to share any relevant information.
This unfortunate incident has left the community in shock, emphasizing the importance of cooperation and vigilance in solving such distressing cases.
