A passenger train carrying 340 people was struck by a jet-powered drone in Ukraine’s Odesa region, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who said the attack destroyed the locomotive.

Zelenskyy said the incident occurred during a broader wave of overnight strikes that affected 11 Ukrainian regions.

Two Railway Workers Killed

According to Zelenskyy, the locomotive driver and his assistant were killed in the strike. He expressed condolences to their families and loved ones.

The Ukrainian president described the train as a civilian passenger service and argued that the operator of the drone would have known that the target was not a military formation.

More Than 130 Drones Reported

Zelenskyy said Russian forces launched more than 130 attack drones against Ukraine overnight, with strikes reported across 11 regions.

He characterized the attacks as part of what he described as a continuing campaign against civilian life, saying that ordinary people remain exposed to daily attacks.

Ukraine Calls for Stronger International Response

The Ukrainian president renewed his appeal for greater international pressure on Russia, arguing that some attacks have not received what he considers an adequate global response.

Zelenskyy called for additional air-defense assistance for Ukraine, saying stronger defensive capabilities would be necessary to protect civilians and critical transportation infrastructure.

Kyiv Seeks More Pressure on Moscow

Zelenskyy said international partners should increase pressure on Russia if the objective is to end the conflict.

His remarks came as Ukraine continues to report attacks involving drones and missiles against locations across the country, while Kyiv urges its allies to provide additional air-defense systems and maintain sanctions and diplomatic pressure on Moscow.
