In a chilling turn of events, nine students who went missing while vacationing in southern Mexico were found dismembered on the side of a highway.
The gruesome discovery was made in San Jose Miahuatlan, a remote area on the border between the Mexican states of Puebla and Oaxaca.
The bodies were located in the trunk of an abandoned car, sparking a wave of horror and shock.
The Horrifying Discovery of the Students’ Remains
The search for the missing students began after they were last seen traveling to the beaches in Oaxaca in late February.
Their disappearance took a dark turn when authorities discovered their bodies inside a deserted vehicle along the Cuacnopalan-Oaxaca highway, approximately 175 miles from Mexico City.
Five of the nine students’ bodies were found under a blood-soaked tarp, while the remaining four were placed in the trunk.
Adding to the gruesome scene, a pair of severed hands was found inside the trunk, alongside a bag containing eight more pairs of hands.
Identifying the Victims and Investigating the Crime
The victims, five men and four women aged between 19 and 30 years old, were all from Tlaxcala, Mexico.
While some of the names of the deceased have been identified, the identity of the ninth victim remains unknown.
Among the recognized victims are Angie Lizeth (29), Brenda Mariel (19), Jacqueline Ailet (23), Noemi Yamileth (28), Lesly Noya Trejo (21), Raul Emmanuel (28), Ruben Antonio, and Rolando Armando.
Investigation and Search for the Killers
As of now, no suspects have been named in connection with this heinous crime.
The Attorney General’s Office in Puebla is working closely with local authorities from Tlaxcala and Oaxaca as they pursue leads.
Surveillance footage from February 24 shows the vehicle driving along the Atlixcayotl highway, about 90 miles west of where the bodies were discovered.
However, officials have been tight-lipped about any further developments in the case due to confidentiality concerns.
