Arthur Zwane says Kaizer Chiefs would do whatever to win the MTN8, but not sacrifice their identity

Arthur Zwane says Kaizer Chiefs would do whatever to win the MTN8, but not sacrifice their identity

According to Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane, the squad will do all it takes to win the MTN8, but they won’t abandon their aim to develop their own identity.

Chiefs, who haven’t won a trophy in seven years, have hired club veteran Zwane as head coach as they embark on a rebuilding period.

However, they have only gathered 11 points from a possible 24 after three victories, two ties, and three defeats, which is not a great start in the league.

But on Saturday, they’ll put their league performance on hold as they concentrate on the first leg of the MTN8 semi-finals against AmaZulu at FNB Stadium.

The MTN8 is decided over four games, and after defeating Stellenbosch away from home in the quarterfinals, Chiefs are three games from winning the championship.

Will Chiefs grind out victories or will they continue to search for their identity in the MTN8 now that form doesn’t matter in knockout games?

Before their match against Usuthu, Zwane remarked, “I know how crucial it is for us to get all the way to the final, and make sure that we win the cup.

But we won’t let what we’re aiming for slip away. Prior to winning cups, we must strike a balance. Not only this one is at issue.

It also has to do with the club’s future. We are attempting to create a balance so that we don’t lose ourselves by solely thinking about putting everything into this game.

“What will happen if we lose after we do that? We also need to consider the club’s future. However, there is no denying that we desire to prevail.

This season, Chiefs and Usuthu drew 0-0 at home, a game that Chiefs were unlucky not to win since they played well and missed a penalty.

Even though the semis will be split into two legs, Zwane is optimistic that they can change their Wafa Wafa Cup fortunes.

Although it won’t be an easy game, we clearly want to win. In the end, cup games are certainly different from league games,” Zwane said.

“They were happy with the draw in the game we played against them. However, they’ll need to start strong and make sure they score in this one.
