…By Larry John for TDPel Media. The All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu are set to commence their defence in the ongoing petition challenging the outcome of the 2023 presidential election.
The parties involved have presented their respective cases before the tribunal, and now it is time for the APC and Tinubu to present their defence.
Petitioners and Petitions:
Following the announcement of the election results, petitions were lodged by Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), and their respective political parties.
Additionally, the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) also filed a petition.
The APM has already closed its case after presenting one witness, while Atiku, the PDP, Obi, and the LP called multiple witnesses before closing their cases.
Adjournment for the Muslim Holiday:
During the last tribunal session, all the counsel representing the parties agreed to adjourn further hearings until after the Muslim holiday.
They took into consideration important factors such as personal celebrations with families and loved ones, as well as the likelihood of a two-day public holiday.
Wole Olanipekun, counsel to Tinubu, requested the adjournment and assured the court that they would complete their case within the allotted time.
Agreed Adjournment and Next Hearing:
The request for adjournment was granted by the five-member panel of justices, with Harunna Tsammani as the lead justice.
The case has been adjourned to July 3 for the continuation of proceedings.
The APC and Tinubu will have the opportunity to present their defence during this next hearing.
