After opening fire inside a Dollar General in Jacksonville, the shooter killed many individuals before being shot.


A shooting incident at a Dollar General store in Jacksonville has resulted in the deaths of multiple individuals. The incident occurred in Northwest Jacksonville, and emergency services, including a SWAT team, promptly responded to the scene on Kings Road around 1pm. Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan confirmed that there have been several fatalities, and the perpetrator of the shooting had barricaded himself inside the store. The shooter is believed to have died as well. The area around Kings Road has been cordoned off by the police.

Mayor Deegan expressed her dismay at the situation, emphasizing that even a single shooting is unacceptable, let alone such tragic mass shootings. She was present at the scene, interacting with emergency services. Angie Nixon, the District 13 State Representative, who represents the neighborhood, described the situation as tragic and stressed the importance of community resources and fostering a climate of love rather than tension to prevent such incidents. She was also present to offer support and maintain calm.

Councilwoman Ju’Coby Pittman shared her devastation over the ongoing violence in the community, expressing her weariness of witnessing repeated shootings. The area around the Canal Street intersection, including north and southbound lanes of King Street, has been closed off to traffic. Residents have been advised to avoid the area.
