Tim McGraw and Faith Hill marked their 30th wedding anniversary on 6 October 2026, celebrating three decades since their marriage in Rayville, Louisiana.
The country music stars married in 1996 after meeting two years earlier at a Nashville music showcase. They have since raised three daughters together while building successful careers in music and entertainment.
To commemorate the milestone, McGraw shared a video montage on social media featuring moments from their relationship over the years.
In his anniversary tribute, he described Hill as the person at the centre of their family, praising her ability to love, forgive, nurture and bring happiness to those around her.
Their Relationship Began at a Nashville Music Event
McGraw and Hill first met backstage in 1994 at the New Faces showcase during the Country Radio Seminar in Nashville, an event highlighting emerging country music performers.
At the time, Hill was engaged to record producer Scott Hendricks, while McGraw was dating Kristine Donahue.
McGraw later recalled that the attraction was immediate. During a 2016 appearance on the Bobby Bones Show, he said the woman he was dating at the time questioned whether he should continue greeting Hill after they met.
Their relationship developed further in 1996 when Hill joined McGraw’s Spontaneous Combustion tour as the opening act.
McGraw later described the period as one in which they were young and deeply in love.
Hill ended her engagement to Hendricks to pursue a relationship with McGraw. In a 1998 interview with People, she said she had decided not to let the opportunity to be with him pass her by.
McGraw Proposed During a Country Music Festival
McGraw proposed to Hill on 26 June 1996 while the pair were at a country music festival.
Recalling the moment in a video shared on X, McGraw said Hill was surprised that he had chosen to propose inside a trailer at the festival.
After he returned from performing on stage, he found her response written on a marker decorated with lipstick kisses. Hill had accepted his proposal.
The couple married on 6 October 1996 in a private ceremony in Rayville, Louisiana, McGraw’s hometown.
McGraw later recalled the wedding taking place beneath an old locust tree in his aunt’s backyard, surrounded by close family and friends.
Faith Hill Was Previously Married to Daniel Hill
Before marrying McGraw, Hill was married to music publishing executive Daniel Hill from 1988 until their divorce in 1994.
She retained the surname professionally after their separation because it had already become established as her recording identity.
By the time the marriage ended, her debut album, Take Me as I Am, was gaining recognition, and she continued using the name Faith Hill throughout her career.
McGraw, meanwhile, had not been married before his wedding to Hill.
The Couple Have Three Daughters
McGraw and Hill have three daughters: Gracie Katherine, Maggie Elizabeth and Audrey Caroline.
Gracie was born in May 1997, Maggie in August 1998 and Audrey in December 2001.
Their eldest daughter, Gracie McGraw, publicly reaffirmed that she is bisexual in June 2025 after a Pride Month social media post prompted media reports suggesting she was coming out for the first time.
She clarified that she had already been openly bisexual and criticised headlines that presented the post as a new announcement.
Gracie also expressed support for people who lack acceptance from their families because of their sexuality or gender identity, pointing to the importance of finding a supportive community.
Hill has previously expressed support for the LGBTQ+ community, including following singer Chely Wright’s public coming-out announcement in 2010.
McGraw and Hill Have Tried to Limit Time Apart
The couple have spoken about the importance of spending time together throughout their marriage.
One practice they have followed is trying not to remain apart for more than three consecutive days.
Their professional commitments have included recording music, touring and acting, with both appearing in the Paramount+ series 1883.
McGraw’s anniversary message highlighted Hill’s role in their family, describing her as a central source of support for him and their three daughters.
McGraw Inducted Into the Country Music Hall of Fame
McGraw was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame on 18 October 2026 in the Modern Era Artist category.
Hill attended the ceremony alongside their daughters Audrey and Maggie.
During his acceptance remarks, McGraw thanked the women who had influenced his life, including his grandmother, mother, sisters, daughters and wife.
He became emotional while acknowledging Hill’s contribution to his personal and professional journey.
McGraw has continued performing live, including a recent appearance at Target Field in Minneapolis as part of his Pawn Shop Guitar tour, alongside acts such as Lady A and The Chicks.
