Mulbarton Wanderers produced a memorable FA Cup night on Tuesday as a record 806 supporters packed into the Norfolk village to watch the non-league side defeat Woodford Town 2-0.
The victory came in an unusual replay ordered by the Football Association after a refereeing error in the original meeting between the two clubs.
Ashley Jarvis scored both goals as Mulbarton secured progression to the third qualifying round and turned an administrative controversy into one of the biggest occasions in the club’s history.

Joint first-team manager Danny Self said the players were delighted to give the crowd something to celebrate after the unusual circumstances that led to the replay.
“We’re over the moon that we’ve given the fans something to shout out about. Their support was incredible to have,” Self said.
Fellow joint manager Ben Thompson urged the same supporters to return for the club’s next FA Cup match, which promises to be an even bigger occasion.
FA Cup Replay Followed Controversial Penalty Decision
The replay was triggered by an incident during the original fixture, which Mulbarton won 2-1.
Woodford were awarded a penalty in the first half while the score was 0-0, but the spot-kick was disallowed after players encroached into the penalty area.
Under the relevant Laws of the Game, the penalty should have been retaken. Instead, the referee restarted play by awarding Mulbarton a free-kick.
Woodford appealed the decision, and the FA subsequently ordered the match to be replayed.

The unusual ruling also meant the replay was moved to Norfolk, giving Mulbarton home advantage.
Rather than allowing the controversy to overshadow the occasion, the village side produced a decisive performance, with Jarvis finding the net twice to settle the tie.
The 2-0 result sent Mulbarton into the third qualifying round and ended Woodford’s FA Cup run.
Prize Money and Gloucester City Await
Progression also delivered a financial boost, with Mulbarton earning £3,375 in FA Cup prize money.
The club will now host Gloucester City in the next round, with another sizeable crowd expected at the Norfolk ground.

“It will be the biggest game in our history and we need the fans again. They’re our 12th man,” he said.
