The Governors of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Yorubaland disagree in their support for the presidential aspiration of the Vice President of Nigeria, Yemi Osinbajo, and the National Leader of the APC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, including that of the Executive Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi.
Governor Fayemi is apparently still making consultations, but 3 of the 5 APC Governors in the region are backing Bola Tinubu while the remaining one is yet to decide whether to go for Osinbajo or Tinubu.
The Ekiti State Governor is in pursuit of the same ambition, and consequently not backing anyone.
Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State is yet to choose a presidential candidate to support.
It was confirmed, however, that the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo- Olu; Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, and the Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola, are backing the aspiration of Bola Tinubu.
According to Vanguard, a source said: ” The governor of Ogun State is with Tinubu. It was Tinubu’ s bloc that produced Dapo Abiodun as a governor in 2019 and not Osinbajo’ s bloc. ”
On the side Governor Fayemi is, another reliable source as reported by Vanguard, revealed that Fayemi was still in consultation regarding his ambition to contest for the presidency.
According to the source: ” If we are going to come out, we must have crossed the ‘ T’ s and dotted the ‘ I’ s and we know that we have hope and our chances are bright.
” There is no point coming out without making an impact. It is important to make due consultations and be sure that if I come out, people will support me. He is not coming out to impress anybody.
” If it is necessary and the environment is okay, he will come out, ” he said.
Responding to a question on whether the other APC governors were supporting Gov. Fayemi, the source further stated that: ” You cannot measure that. However, his colleagues love him, his leadership direction, and the dynamism he has brought to bear, especially on the NGF. “
