A devastating accident involving five vehicles has left a 40-year-old woman in critical condition and a schoolboy seriously injured in Cambridge.
The incident, which occurred on the A14 near Newmarket, has prompted a police search for a driver believed to have fled the scene.
Details of the Incident
The crash took place late on Friday night, around 11:40 p.m., on the eastbound carriageway of the A14, between junctions 36 and 37.
Emergency services quickly responded to reports of a multi-vehicle collision.
The incident initially involved just one car, a grey Nissan Silvia, but things escalated quickly, with further collisions involving a grey Volvo, a grey Ford Ecosport, and a blue Peugeot.
The fifth vehicle involved in the crash is believed to have left the scene before police arrived.
Authorities have not yet identified the driver of this car.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
Detective Sergeant Craig Wheeler, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, described the crash as “nasty,” stressing that three people were seriously injured.
He is urging anyone who may have witnessed the accident or has dashcam footage of the event to come forward.
In particular, he is hoping to hear from those who were traveling on either the eastbound or westbound lanes.
“Anyone who saw anything or has footage from any of the collisions, or vehicles passing through the scene, could provide crucial evidence,” said Sergeant Wheeler.
“We are also appealing to the driver or occupants of the vehicle that fled the scene to contact us, as they may hold vital information.”
Emergency Response
Emergency services acted swiftly to attend to the injured.
According to an East of England Ambulance spokesperson, two ambulances, a paramedic car, two Hazardous Area Response Team vehicles, and the East Anglian Air Ambulance were dispatched to the scene near Swaffham Prior, just before midnight on Friday, November 22.
Their quick response was critical in providing immediate medical care to those affected.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are continuing their search for the person who left the scene.
