Without a fair deal with Kyiv, sanctions against Moscow will remain in place – German Chancellor Olaf Scholz

Sanctions on Moscow will continue if a fair agreement cannot be reached with Kyiv. At the closing news conference of the G7 meeting, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced such a requirement for the easing of Russian sanctions.

“Without a fair deal with Ukraine, sanctions will also continue to be in place,” Scholz said, recalling the restrictions imposed in connection with the situation with Crimea.

The German chancellor had already stated that sanctions on Russia would only be withdrawn following the signing of a fair peace agreement with Ukraine. He said that Western nations are united in their desire to prevent Russia from winning the crisis in Ukraine and putting further economic pressure on it.
