A vacation to a four-star resort in Turkey turned into a nightmare for a seven-year-old girl and her family.
The child, Phoebe, reportedly turned ‘yellow’ after contracting what other guests believe to be a severe stomach bug at the Club Mermaid Village in Alanya.
Widespread Illness at the Resort
Sade Ingram, 32, revealed that her daughter Phoebe was among 28 cases of illness reported by guests at the resort.
Ingram feared for her daughter’s life as the illness worsened.
The resort, located in a popular Turkish tourist town, is known for its luxurious stays, with a ten-night vacation reportedly costing over £2,500.
Guests Taking Precautions
Concerned about the spread of the illness, guests have created a WhatsApp group to track the outbreak and have been staying in their rooms to avoid getting sick or to recover.
Reports indicate that the illness may be a bacterial infection or gastroenteritis, and ambulances and police have been frequently seen at the resort.
Family Struggles and Hospital Visits
Ingram, who was also on holiday with her nine-year-old daughter, told Manchester Evening News that both she and Phoebe were hospitalized due to the ‘gastro bug’.
Ingram described her daughter’s condition as so severe that she began hallucinating from dehydration.
Despite receiving treatment at the hospital, Ingram worries that more guests will end up needing medical attention.
Resort Conditions and Responses
Guests have been forced to rely on packet noodles and store-bought food to avoid the resort’s meals, as some staff members also fell ill but continued to work.
Ingram noted that their room has not been cleaned since their illness.
Another family, who spent around £2,500 on a ten-day stay, has also been affected.
Ongoing Investigations and Apologies
Ceri George from Oldham shared her family’s ordeal, including concerns for their eight-month-old baby with a weakened immune system.
They’ve been confined to their room for four days and counting.
Loveholidays, the booking agent for George’s family, has announced an investigation into the situation.
Meanwhile, On The Beach, which handled Ingram’s booking, has apologized for the inconvenience and is investigating the matter, offering a gesture of goodwill to address the issues identified.
