American Lady Charged with Felony Theft for Allegedly Fabricating Assault Story to Scam $40,000 on GoFundMe

Alleged Assault Victim Faces Accusations of GoFundMe Fraud

In a surprising turn of events, Roda Osman, a 33-year-old American lady, who previously claimed to be a victim of assault, is now facing charges of committing felony theft by deception.

The allegations suggest that Osman fabricated the assault story to illicitly raise funds on the popular crowdfunding platform, GoFundMe.

Deceptive Fundraising Tactics Unveiled

Osman gained social media attention in September after asserting that she was assaulted by a man with a brick outside a club.

However, court documents now allege that Osman intentionally used this fabricated story to fraudulently generate over $40,000 on GoFundMe.

Changing Narratives and Doubts Emerge

Contrary to her initial claims, reports indicate that Osman changed her story when questioned by authorities.

An off-the-record statement from a friend contacted by the police expressed skepticism about Osman’s account, stating that she did not believe Osman was hit with a brick.

Detectives obtained footage showing Osman being struck in the face, but the object appeared to be a plastic water bottle, not a brick.

Investigation into Previous GoFundMe Campaign

Texas Detectives reached out to the Minneapolis Police Department to investigate Osman’s 2020 GoFundMe campaign titled “Help Black Muslim Mother Pay Her Medical Bill,” which also featured a narrative of a “Black man hitting her.” Minneapolis Police confirmed they had no records of Osman being assaulted in 2020.

Legal Consequences and Current Bail Status

Currently out on bail for a separate offense from September 2023, where she faced charges of felony assault and domestic violence, Osman is now confronting additional legal challenges.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office is seeking a $50,000 bail for the theft by deception charge related to the alleged GoFundMe scam.
