Electricity Consumers Brace for Blackout in Gombe, Yola, and Bauchi States as TCN Announces Planned Maintenance

TCN Issues Blackout Warning for Gombe, Yola, and Bauchi States

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has alerted residents of Gombe, Yola, and Bauchi States about an upcoming temporary power outage.

The interruption, scheduled for Thursday and Friday, is attributed to planned maintenance on key power facilities.

Scheduled Preventive Maintenance on T1A 150MVA Transformer Bay

According to a statement released by TCN on Wednesday, the maintenance crew will be engaged in scheduled preventive maintenance on the bay of its T1A 150MVA, 330/132/33kV transformer on January 18 and 19, 2024.

The maintenance operation is slated to last for eight hours each day, from 9 am to 5 pm.

Load Shifting and Impact on Electricity Supply

During the maintenance operation, the TCN plans to shift the load from the T1A 150MVA transformer to the T2A 150MVA transformer within the same substation.

This temporary load transfer is expected to result in a brief disruption in the provision of bulk power supply to Jos and Yola DisCos through the T1A transformer.

Temporary Blackout Limited to Transfer Period

TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, assured that the short outage would only affect supply to Gombe and certain areas in Yola and Bauchi states during the transfer period on both days.

Importantly, the interruption will be confined to the transfer time and will not persist throughout the entire eight-hour maintenance exercise.

TCN’s Restoration Assurance

Despite the planned interruption, the TCN has assured consumers that bulk power supply through the T1A transformer will be promptly restored immediately after the completion of the maintenance exercise.

TCN expressed regret for any inconvenience caused to electricity consumers within the affected areas.

Prior Maintenance Activity on Jos-Lafia 330kV Transmission Lines

The TCN maintenance crew had previously conducted scheduled preventive maintenance on the Jos-Lafia 330kV transmission lines last Saturday, addressing redundancy issues that had persisted for some time.
