U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that American forces carried out another series of military strikes against Iran, completing the operation at approximately 9 p.m. Eastern Time on July 20.
According to CENTCOM, the strikes targeted military facilities believed to support Iran’s ability to conduct operations that threaten international shipping in and around the Strait of Hormuz.
Command Centers and Weapons Systems Hit
The U.S. military said the latest operation focused on multiple categories of Iranian military assets.
Among the targets were military command centers, maritime capabilities, missile launch positions, drone launch sites, and air defense systems.
CENTCOM stated that the objective was to reduce Iran’s capacity to continue attacks against commercial vessels transiting one of the world’s busiest maritime trade routes.
The U.S. military did not immediately release information regarding damage assessments or potential casualties resulting from the operation.
Shipping Continues Through the Strait of Hormuz
Despite ongoing regional tensions, commercial maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has continued, according to CENTCOM.
The strategic waterway remains one of the world’s most important energy corridors, serving as a critical passage for global oil exports and international trade.
U.S. officials said maintaining freedom of navigation remains a central objective of military operations in the region.
CENTCOM Reports Support for Hundreds of Commercial Ships
The command stated that U.S. forces have been actively supporting maritime security operations since early May.
According to CENTCOM, American military assets have helped facilitate the safe transit of approximately 900 commercial vessels carrying an estimated 450 million barrels of crude oil through the Strait of Hormuz during that period.
The military described the effort as part of its broader mission to safeguard international shipping and protect global commerce.
U.S. Pledges Continued Response to Maritime Threats
CENTCOM said U.S. forces remain deployed and prepared to respond to what it described as Iranian aggression directed at civilian shipping.
The command stated that American forces are positioned to continue protecting commercial maritime traffic and to hold Iran accountable for actions that threaten vessels navigating the international waterway.
The latest strikes mark another phase in ongoing U.S. military operations aimed at preserving security and ensuring the uninterrupted flow of maritime commerce through the Strait of Hormuz, a route considered vital to global energy markets.
