The U.S. military has launched another round of strikes against Iran, marking the ninth consecutive night of operations aimed at weakening Tehran’s military capabilities.
According to U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), the latest wave of attacks began at 7 p.m. Eastern Time and forms part of an ongoing campaign focused on degrading military assets that U.S. officials say have been used to threaten commercial shipping and civilian mariners transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
CENTCOM indicated that the strikes are expected to continue as part of the broader effort to protect maritime traffic in one of the world’s most strategically important waterways.
U.S. Navy Maintains Maritime Blockade Operations
Alongside the air campaign, American naval forces continue enforcing the maritime blockade against Iran.
CENTCOM said sailors aboard the guided-missile destroyer USS John Finn (DDG-113) remain on high alert while carrying out operations in the region. As of July 19, U.S. forces reported redirecting six commercial vessels and disabling one vessel to ensure compliance with blockade measures.
The naval mission is being conducted alongside the broader military campaign designed to limit Iran’s operational capabilities at sea.
Search Efforts Continue Following Deadly Attack in Jordan
CENTCOM also provided an update on U.S. personnel affected by the Iranian attack in Jordan on July 17.
After previously announcing that two American service members had been killed and another remained missing, military search teams located unidentified human remains at the attack site. Officials said forensic examinations are now underway to determine whether the remains belong to the missing service member.
The command emphasized that the identification process remains ongoing and that additional details will be released only after confirmation is complete.
Additional U.S. Casualty Reported in Northern Iraq
In a separate incident, CENTCOM confirmed that another U.S. service member was killed in northern Iraq on July 18 during the controlled disposal of unexploded ordnance recovered from a downed Iranian one-way attack drone.
A second service member sustained minor injuries during the operation and continues to receive medical treatment, according to the military.
Identities Withheld Pending Family Notification
CENTCOM said it is withholding the names of the deceased, the missing service member and other identifying information until the notification process for their families has been completed.
The command stated that the decision reflects its longstanding policy of protecting the privacy of military families during periods of loss while investigations and identification procedures remain in progress.
