…By Joseph Benjamin for TDPel Media. Popular Nigerian TV host Rufai Oseni has responded to the reports from the Presidency, refuting the alleged increment in the salaries of public office holders.
It has been widely reported that the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) proposed a 114 percent increase in the salaries of the President, Vice President, elected federal and state political office holders, as well as judicial officers.
Presidency Denies Salary Increment Proposal:
However, the Special Adviser to the President on Special Duties, Communication, and Strategy, Dele Alake, stated on behalf of President Bola Tinubu that no proposal for salary increment had been presented to him.
He emphasized that the President had not approved any salary increase and that no such proposal had been brought before him for consideration.
Alake highlighted that the RMAFC has the constitutional authority to propose and determine salaries and allowances of political office holders and judicial officers, but it requires the President’s approval to take effect.
Rufai Oseni Disputes Government’s Claims:
In response to the Presidency’s denial, Rufai Oseni took to Twitter to express his disagreement.
Oseni argued that there does exist a proposal for revenue increase, contrary to the Federal Government’s claims.
He further asserted that the administration led by President Tinubu was attempting to discredit the truth surrounding the salary increment issue.
Claims of Discrediting the Truth:
Oseni strongly maintained his stance, stating that a representative from the RMAFC had confirmed and defended the proposed salary increase on television the day before.
He stood by his affirmation that “they want to increase salaries” and accused the government of crying “fake news” in an attempt to discredit the truth.
According to Oseni, the government’s plan to undermine the credibility of the reports has already failed, as the truth remains evident.
Conclusion:
Rufai Oseni has disputed the Presidency’s denial of a salary increment proposal for public office holders.
While the government maintains that no such proposal has been brought before President Tinubu, Oseni argued that there is concrete evidence supporting the existence of the proposal.
The disagreement between Oseni and the government highlights the ongoing debate and controversy surrounding the alleged salary increment for public officials in Nigeria.
