Turkey has confirmed it is in discussions with several countries over the future of its Russian-made S-400 air defense systems, signaling a potential shift in policy as Ankara works to strengthen its relationship with the United States.
The comments come amid renewed diplomatic engagement between the two NATO allies and growing speculation over what will happen to the controversial missile systems that have strained ties between Washington and Ankara for years.
Defense Minister Confirms Ongoing Discussions
Turkish Defense Minister Yaşar Güler revealed that negotiations involving third countries are currently underway regarding the possible re-export of the S-400 missile batteries.
Responding in writing to questions from members of the European Parliament, Güler said Turkey is looking for practical solutions to long-standing issues inherited from previous years as military and political relations with the United States continue to improve.
He stressed that Ankara is pursuing these efforts through cooperation and mutual understanding while seeking to resolve disputes surrounding the Russian-made defense system.
S-400 Purchase Continues to Shape US-Turkey Relations
