After months of anticipation, Thomas Tuchel has officially started his role as the new manager of the England men’s national team.
Having taken the reins on January 1, he made his first visit to St George’s Park on Monday afternoon, ready to kick off his tenure.
Tuchel Settles Into His New Role
Tuchel’s arrival at St George’s Park marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Three Lions.
Joined by his coaching staff, including goalkeeping coach Henrique Hilario, performance coach Nico Mayer, and analyst James Melbourne, the group wasted no time in getting acquainted with their new surroundings.
Their day began with an early-morning tour of the impressive facilities at St George’s Park, including the gym and medical centers, both at the football center and hotel.
Along the way, Tuchel met with key figures from the FA Pro Licence program, such as Ashley Cole, who is set to rejoin the England Under-21 team.
The visit provided Tuchel with the opportunity to meet more of his colleagues before delivering a short but impactful speech about his vision for the team’s future.
A Busy Weekend of Premier League Scouting
Tuchel wasted no time in observing England’s players in action, attending several Premier League matches over the weekend.
He was spotted at Tottenham’s game against Newcastle, Brighton’s clash with Arsenal, and Liverpool’s high-profile encounter with Manchester United at Anfield.
These outings were part of his intense schedule to assess the players ahead of his first fixtures as manager.
On Saturday, Tuchel visited Spurs Lodge, where the England team regularly stays before matches at Wembley, to further immerse himself in the setup.
By Monday evening, he was already heading to Molineux to watch Wolverhampton Wanderers take on Nottingham Forest, marking his fourth game in just three days.
Preparing for the March Fixtures
The following days will be filled with crucial meetings as Tuchel and his team continue settling in.
At St George’s Park, they will meet with various departments, including Under-21s head coach Lee Carsley, to reflect on the autumn matches and begin preparations for the March fixtures against Albania and Latvia.
These games are just the start of the qualification campaign for the 2026 World Cup, and Tuchel’s attention to detail in these early discussions highlights his commitment to the role.
A Glimpse of England’s Talent in Action
During his Premier League scouting, Tuchel kept a close eye on the performances of key England players.
He watched Liverpool’s match against Manchester United, where English talents like Trent Alexander-Arnold and Curtis Jones started for Liverpool, while Harry Maguire and Kobbie Mainoo featured for United.
Other familiar faces like Dominic Solanke, who has three England caps, also made an appearance, scoring for Tottenham against Newcastle.
Tuchel also observed rising stars such as Brandon Austin, Djed Spence, and James Maddison, as well as players from other Premier League clubs like Tino Livramento, Jacob Murphy, and Harvey Barnes.
Tuchel’s whirlwind start as England manager is a sign of the busy months ahead, and fans will be watching closely as he molds his squad and prepares for the challenges that lie ahead.
