Crucial Proteas players are being left behind as the team struggles to prepare for a Twenty20 series against Australia.

For the current white-ball tour against Australia, the Proteas medical staff has issued an update on four players.

Keshav Maharaj has been given the green light to play in the remaining T20 International and ODI matches.

The 33-year-old has made great strides in his recovery from a torn left Achilles and played in Tuesday’s preseason 50-over encounter between the Hollywoodbets Dolphins and the AET Tuskers in Pietermaritzburg.

Sisanda Magala’s left knee injury prevents him from playing in Friday’s second T20I.

The 32-year-old experienced pain during training, and tests identified infrapatellar tendinopathy as the cause.

The medical staff will keep monitoring him until Sunday’s third Twenty20 International.

The left shoulder issue Wayne Parnell suffered earlier has returned.

Marco Jansen, who was originally cut from the Twenty20 International team so that he could attend his sister’s wedding, has been reinstated for the next five-game Betway One-Day International series.

On Wednesday, the Proteas lost the first Twenty20 International against Australia by 111 runs in Durban.

The second game is set for Friday, September 1 at 18:00, and the third and final matchup is set for Sunday, September 3 at 14:00, both at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead.
