On Sunday, September 8, 2024, Alvin Bruinders and his wife Anrika, the South African singer, faced an unimaginable tragedy.

Their premature baby girl, Alaska, passed away just eight days after her birth.

The Couple’s Heartfelt Announcement

The couple took to Facebook to share their sorrowful news.

Their post, written in Afrikaans, read: ‘Dis met groot hartseer dan ons meedeel.

Waar ons geliefdes haar ontvang.

Dankie vir almal se gebede.’

In English, this translates to: “It is with great sadness that we announce that Alaska got her angel wings this morning.

She walked to God’s paradise where our loved ones received her.

Thanks for everyone’s prayers.”

A Glimmer of Hope

Just the day before, the couple had expressed hope for their daughter’s recovery.

Anrika and Alvin had posted: “She is brave and strong … she’s trying to show us she is here and she is fighting … day seven is a miracle.

She has never been so busy and present!”

Alaska was born prematurely at 31 weeks and faced multiple complications, including a lack of movement since birth.

Alvin Bruinders: From TV Star to Devoted Father

Earlier this year, Jacaranda FM reported that Alvin and Anrika were thrilled to announce they were expecting another child after 17 unsuccessful IVF attempts.

They had opted for a surrogate to help realize their dream of expanding their family.

Alvin Bruinders is well-known for his role as ‘Sheridan’ in the South African comedy series Vetkoekpaleis.

During his time on the show, he shared the screen with Zack du Plessis, Willie Esterhuizen, and Hélène Truter.

However, in recent years, Alvin’s most important role has been that of a father.

The couple’s seven-year-old son, Avrick, was also born via surrogate.

A Loving Union

Alvin and Anrika tied the knot on December 16, 2006, at Cape Town’s St George’s Cathedral, with their wedding reception held at the Bay Hotel in Camps Bay.

Anrika described their wedding day as “a dream come true.”
