South African Footballer Keletso Makgalwa Explores the Challenges Faced After Pitso Mosimane Left Mamelodi Sundowns and His Revival at Sekhukhune United

Keletso Makgalwa, an attacking midfielder who’s been making waves, recently opened up about a turning point in his career that coincided with the departure of the esteemed coach Pitso Mosimane from Mamelodi Sundowns.

It was during Mosimane’s tenure, specifically in the 2017/18 season, that Makgalwa got promoted to the senior team, stepping into the limelight under the guidance of one of South Africa’s most successful coaches.

However, the journey wasn’t smooth sailing. Makgalwa found himself grappling with stiff competition for playing time at a club packed with talent, which meant he spent a fair bit of time on the bench.

To build his skills and gain valuable experience, he was loaned out to several teams, including Maritzburg United, Chippa United, Moroka Swallows, and TS Galaxy.

His time with Upington City FC last season in the Motsepe Foundation Championship was particularly notable, where he shone on the pitch.

The Impact of Mosimane’s Departure

Makgalwa has been candid about how Mosimane’s exit affected him, noting that he felt a significant shift in his development and confidence.

In a recent interview with FARPost, he shared, “I wouldn’t say I was complaining about the mentality back then.

But I think after Pitso left, everything just changed because he was the one taking care of me.”

He fondly recalled how Mosimane ensured he maintained a healthy lifestyle, stating, “He was making sure I ate well, and I lived a healthy life. So yeah, I think that’s where I lost it.”

Alongside the coaching change, injuries also plagued his time at Sundowns, making it even tougher to break through and play consistently.

“Every time I was ready to play, something happened, and it was always difficult for me,” he reflected.

A Fresh Start at Sekhukhune United

Now, at 27, Makgalwa is embarking on a new chapter with Sekhukhune United in the Betway Premiership.

He seems to have found his groove again, already racking up two Man of the Match awards this season.

His renewed confidence is evident as he believes he can make a meaningful impact not just at his club but also for the national team, Bafana Bafana.

“I believe I have so many things to offer, especially in South African football, internationally, and even in Bafana.

I think I am capable of doing good,” he stated confidently.

Additionally, he’s already made his mark in the CAF Confederation Cup by scoring two goals for Sekhukhune United.

With this new energy and determination, fans are eager to see what’s next for Makgalwa as he aims to reclaim his spot in the spotlight.
