Sekhukhune United’s captain, Linda Mntambo, recently opened up about the impending transfer of their winger, Elias Mokwana, to the Tunisian football giants, Espérance.
This exciting development was confirmed when Mokwana was spotted arriving in Tunis with senior club official Floyd Mbele.
Since joining Sekhukhune in 2022, the 24-year-old has made a significant impact, even earning a call-up to the South African national team, Bafana Bafana, under coach Hugo Broos.
A Key Player’s Departure
Mntambo spoke highly of Mokwana’s contributions to the team, highlighting his critical role in their success.
“Elias has been a standout player for us,” Mntambo shared. “His performance earned him a spot with Bafana Bafana for the qualifiers, which is a testament to his skill and dedication. We’ve always had depth in our squad, but Elias has truly shone.”
The captain also mentioned the recent loss of another key player, Kamohelo Mokotjo, to rivals Cape Town City FC.
Despite these changes, Mntambo remains confident in the team’s strength, stating, “We still have a strong squad.
It’s up to us to ensure the new and younger players adjust quickly, and our recent seven-week break has been beneficial for this transition.”
Farewell and Best Wishes
As Mokwana prepares for his next chapter, Mntambo expressed his support and well-wishes for his soon-to-be former teammate. “I hope Elias excels wherever he goes,” Mntambo said.
“He’s a quick learner and has always been receptive to advice from both senior players and coaches. Despite his talent, he has remained humble and eager to grow.”
Mntambo believes that Mokwana’s determination, driven by his background and desire to support his family, will help him succeed in his new journey. “Elias knows where he comes from and what he wants to achieve. With that mindset, I’m confident he’ll continue to thrive,” Mntambo concluded.
This move marks a significant step in Mokwana’s career, and everyone at Sekhukhune United is eager to see him succeed on this new stage.
