Giving a health update, Sarah Beeny, 51, acknowledges that learning she had cancer allowed her to crack open her “box of demons” and take a “look inside.”Through Milly Veitch Updated: 07:32 EDT, August 30, 2023 for Mailonline

Sarah Beeny has spoken up about her battle with cancer and expressed her gratitude for having finished her treatment. The TV host, 51, said she received a double mastectomy and treatment after being diagnosed with breast cancer in August 2022.

She expressed her gratitude while appearing on BBC Breakfast on Monday, stating, “I’m really lucky.” I am fortunate to live in the UK and have access to the NHS, and I got a really fortunate diagnosis. I feel fortunate to be the age I am, and I have a lot to be thankful for.Sarah continued by describing how the cancer had changed her while maintaining her identity.I was given a cancer diagnosis a year ago, and to be really honest, it didn’t change me at all.I mean, it’s evident that it did because I had to undergo treatment.

But I don’t want people to think I’ve changed.’I’m definitely a lot less afraid of cancer now,’ she acknowledged, ‘because it was like the big scary wolf and now I’m like you just deal with it.’You only need to get to the doctor quickly since the earlier the diagnosis, the better the outcome.Treatment now is incredible compared to 40 years ago, yet it will be nothing in 40 years.

‘Sarah continued by saying that having cancer forced her to confront her own concerns and that she felt ‘lucky’ to be able to do so at this point.I feel very fortunate that I was able to open that box of horrors and take a peek inside, the woman stated. They’re not particularly attractive, but I can finally stop talking. After her mother Ann passed away from cancer at the age of 39 when Sarah was only 10 years old, she confirmed her diagnosis in an interview with The Telegraph in August, saying she had always felt she would be.

Graham Swift, Sarah’s husband of 19 years, and the four sons they have together—Billy, 18, Charlie, 16, Rafferty, 14, and Laurie, 12—are her inspiration for disclosing her diagnosis. The group Entitled Sons, which Graham and the boys established, just performed at Glastonbury festival.Sarah remarked, “I look back at the relationship with my mum and dad and I think it probably shaped my relationship with my four sons.”

They have a band that my husband is in that is really taking off. And I believe that my childhood has affected how I relate to them.I’m incredibly happy for them. I pause to pinch myself and wonder how I got here. They were selected to perform at Glastonbury this year after winning a competition, and I was there wondering, “Did I deserve this, how did I get so jammy?” I am thus exceedingly fortunate.
