Christy Knowings, the actress and comedian best known for her work on Nickelodeon’s All That, has died at the age of 46 after suffering an asthma attack that reportedly caused severe brain damage.
Knowings was placed on life support at a Los Angeles-area hospital last Friday, according to TMZ.
Her family ultimately made the decision to remove her from life support, and she died Tuesday evening.
Three Seasons on All That
Knowings became a familiar face to Nickelodeon viewers after joining All That, appearing on the sketch comedy series for three seasons between 1997 and 2000.
During her time on the program, she portrayed a variety of characters, including Penny Lane.
She also appeared alongside Amanda Bynes in the recurring “Whateverrr!!!” sketches, where she played Jessica.
The series became a launching pad for several young performers who later achieved major success, including Kenan Thompson and Bynes.
Knowings Remembered as a Versatile Performer
Beyond comedy, Knowings built a career across acting, singing and dancing.
Her representative described her as a highly talented performer who remained committed to her craft.
“Christy was a multi talented lady,” the representative said in a statement.
“Whether it was singing, acting, dancing, she was always creating. Always professional and dedicated to her work.”
She also appeared alongside her twin brother, Chris Knowings, in three episodes of Sesame Street.
Actress Recalled Her Favorite All That Character
Knowings spoke fondly about her Nickelodeon years in a 2019 interview with Bustle, particularly recalling the experience of playing Gloria Bankhead during the show’s sixth season.
The character was an exaggerated, Martha Stewart-inspired personality and became one of Knowings’ favorite roles.
She recalled remaining in character even when cameras were not rolling, saying the cast and crew would greet her as Gloria throughout the day.
The experience, she said, made the character especially enjoyable to perform.
Kenan Thompson Pays Emotional Tribute
News of Knowings’ death prompted an emotional response from former All That co-star Kenan Thompson.
Thompson shared a tribute on Instagram, expressing shock over her death and sending his condolences to her family.
“Man this one hit hard!!! Rest well Christy!!! Never could have imagined this day!!” he wrote.
He described Knowings as “a real one” and one of the funniest people he knew, adding that he would miss his former co-star and encouraging fans to remember her.
A Career Beyond Nickelodeon
Knowings continued working in entertainment beyond her years on All That.
Her credits included the film The 24 Hour Woman, which starred Patti LuPone, as well as voice work in the animated movie Santa Baby!
She also explored live performance and toured with the musical Hairspray, demonstrating the range that extended beyond her television comedy work.
Death Comes Amid Another All That Loss
Knowings’ death comes roughly seven months after another former All That performer, Kianna Underwood, died at the age of 33.
Underwood died in January after being involved in a hit-and-run collision in Brooklyn.
She had appeared on All That during its later years, reportedly featuring in seven episodes in 2004 and 2005.
She joined the series after replacing Jamie Lynn Spears during its tenth and final season.
A Lasting Nickelodeon Legacy
For viewers who grew up watching Nickelodeon during the late 1990s and early 2000s, Knowings remained part of a generation of performers who helped define All That.
Her work alongside future stars such as Bynes and Thompson established her place in the show’s history, while her performances across television, film and stage reflected a career that extended well beyond the sketch series.
Knowings is survived by family members and loved ones who are now mourning the loss of the performer at 46.
