Royal Navy engineer, 31, who raped his sleeping male colleague is jailed for seven years

A Royal Navy sailor was sentenced to seven years in prison for raping his sleeping male colleague after a cookout.AB Glasgow has also been dismissed from the force 'with disgrace' and placed on the sex offenders register after he completely destroyed' the life of his victim

Able Sailor Troy Glasgow took “opportunistic advantage” of the startled sailor, who was awoken by “excruciating pain” after being raped at a housing complex at an overseas military base, when he raped her in an apartment.

The 31-year-old ‘totally wrecked’ the life of his victim, who was subsequently medically discharged from the Navy owing to mental health issues that ‘absolutely engulfed’ his life.

After a three-day trial at Bulford Military Court, Wiltshire, during which AB Glasgow denied committing a rape, he was found guilty, incarcerated, and placed on the sex offenders register.

During the trial, it was revealed that AB Glasgow and the guy had had beer at a Navy cookout while stationed abroad.

After destroying the life of his victim, AB Glasgow was also sacked from the police force ‘with disgrace’ and listed on the sex offenders register.

The duo resided in the same apartment building and walked home together shortly after closing time.

The victim asked the engineering technician AB Glasgow back to his room so that they could continue drinking.

The court heard that while AB Glasgow was in the room, the sailor had a video call with a woman he was “getting to know” after drinking vodka and listening to music.

AB Glasgow fell asleep on the bed while the male sailor continued to use his phone.

After falling asleep, the heterosexual sailor awoke in the wee hours of the morning in excruciating discomfort.

The court heard that when the sailor realized what was occurring, he responded with “absolute wrath,” swinging a vodka bottle at AB Glasgow, shouting “get out,” and grabbing a knife from his multi-tool before being restrained by crewmates.

The sailor then plunged into the water from a nearby dock because he ‘felt unclean.’

In a victim impact statement, he stated, “This incident has significantly affected my mental health, and I have developed mental health issues as a direct result of this occurrence.”

‘I feel like I have been stuck living in a nightmare.’

The court heard that the victim has post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, daily antidepressant use, and panic attacks.

Without my medication, I am unable of sleeping.

I awaken in the middle of the night obviously trembling and sobbing for no apparent cause.

The victim avoids seeing his parents and kids because he feels he has “failed them down,” the court heard.

I used to be outgoing and confident, but now I avoid social encounters as much as possible.

My career has spiraled out of control to the point where I have been medically discharged.

I am by myself and alone. I believe that I will spend the remainder of my life as a loner.

My future is no longer certain or solid, which the Navy provided.

I cannot imagine anything positive in my future.

This tragedy has devastated my entire life and future.

My mental health issues have overtaken my entire life. I feel like I have lost everything. I am not the same individual I once was. I’m terrified that I will never be the same again.

The Bulford Military Court in Wiltshire (pictured) was informed that the victim suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, daily antidepressant use, and panic attacks.

Alistair McGrigor, the sentencing judge advocate, stated that the assault had a “devastating impact” on the victim’s mental health.

“You both fell asleep,” he informed AB Glasgow.

“When you awoke, you were aroused and took advantage of his sleeping state.”

He was comatose and unable to consent to or resist treatment.

“It is undeniable that your acts have had a catastrophic impact on [the victim’s] mental health.

You are no longer permitted to serve in the Navy and must be discharged.

We believe that your behavior was shameful.
