On the last day of his school summer holidays, Prince George embarked on a memorable adventure.
According to The Sun, the young royal had his first taste of flying at White Waltham Airfield near Maidenhead, and he reportedly enjoyed every moment of it.
A Royal Outing
The Prince and Princess of Wales were present to watch their 11-year-old son take off and land safely.
Arriving in a three-car convoy from their Windsor residence, William and Kate observed George’s flight with an instructor from the sidelines.
Once the flight was completed, the family relaxed at the clubhouse of the West London Aero Club.
Exciting New Endeavor
An onlooker commented on George’s budding interest in aviation, noting that it’s an exciting time for the young prince.
With a rich tradition of flying in the Royal Family, it seems George is gearing up to continue that legacy.
Despite being only 11, he’s already begun his journey into the world of aviation.
Flight Training Details
While pilots can start their training at any age, official flying hours required for a licence begin at 14.
Students must be accompanied by an instructor until they turn 16, after which they can fly solo.
To obtain a Private Pilot Licence, one must complete a minimum of 45 flying hours and pass nine theoretical exams.
Pilots can start carrying passengers once they turn 17.
Royal Aviation Legacy
Prince George follows a notable family tradition in aviation.
His father, William, is a skilled helicopter pilot with experience flying for RAF Search and Rescue and East Anglia Air Ambulance.
William’s own father, Prince Philip, began his flying training at White Waltham in 1952 and received his wings in 1953.
William and his brother Harry also have strong connections to aviation.
William, who started flying training with the RAF in 2009, has a history of rescue operations and family flights.
He even expressed his desire to fly again, with plans to potentially volunteer with the Wales Air Ambulance.
Looking Ahead
As Prince George continues to explore his interest in flying, it’s clear he’s following in the footsteps of his accomplished family members.
Whether or not he will follow the exact path of his father and grandfather remains to be seen, but it’s evident that the Royal Family’s aviation legacy is alive and well.
