Power Outages in Nine Ogun Communities Due to Reduced Generation from Egbin Power Station

A recent decline in power generation from the Egbin power station has resulted in power outages affecting at least nine communities in Ogun State.

The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) conveyed this information through its social media platforms late on Thursday night.

Affected Communities:

The impacted areas include Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, along with Sango, Ota, Ilaro, Ayetoro, Imeko, Mowe, Ibafo, and Magboro within the state.

The IBEDC highlighted the challenges faced by these communities as a direct consequence of the reduced power generation from the Egbin station.

Official Statement:

The IBEDC formally announced the power outage, stating, “Due to the drop in generation from the Egbin generation station, customers in the following communities: Sango, Ota, Ilaro, Ayetoro, Imeko, Mowe, Ibafo, Magboro, Abeokuta metropolis and environs are experiencing a power outage.”

The company acknowledged the inconvenience faced by residents and assured that efforts were underway to resolve the issue.

Technical Team’s Response:

The IBEDC’s technical team is actively collaborating with relevant stakeholders to expedite the restoration of power supply to the affected communities.

Despite the challenges, the company expressed its commitment to addressing the outage promptly. The statement concluded with a sincere apology for any inconvenience experienced by residents.

Background on Previous Outage:

This recent power disruption follows a similar incident on December 19, 2023, when the IBEDC reported that ongoing maintenance at the Egbin Power Station resulted in a complete load allocation cut-off from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

As a consequence, residents of Abeokuta metropolis were plunged into darkness.

The TCN had earlier explained that the power plant’s shutdown was necessary to facilitate maintenance work on the gas pipeline supplying Egbin Power Station.

Conclusion:

The ongoing efforts by the IBEDC’s technical team to address the power outage in the affected Ogun communities underscore the importance of resolving challenges promptly.

The company’s commitment to collaboration and communication with stakeholders reflects its dedication to restoring normalcy to the impacted areas as quickly as possible.
