Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman is under fire after he made derogatory remarks aimed at Green Party voters, which quickly sparked a heated response from critics.
The controversial comments came as the state’s closely contested Senate race unfolded, and Fetterman’s remarks were seen as divisive rather than unifying.
Fetterman’s Outburst on Social Media
Fetterman, who is a Democrat, took to X (formerly Twitter) to weigh in on the ongoing tally of votes in Pennsylvania.
In his post, he reiterated that every vote would be counted, stressing that it was not controversial but the law.
However, his tone soon turned hostile when he lashed out at Green Party voters, calling them “dip****s” for potentially helping the GOP.
The senator was clearly frustrated, believing that votes for the Green Party candidate, Leila Hazou, may have played a role in tipping the balance in favor of Republican Dave McCormick.
The Close Senate Race
McCormick, the former CEO of Bridgewater Associates, was leading the race with a narrow 37,000-vote margin over incumbent Democrat Bob Casey, with 98% of votes already counted.
If the margin remains under 0.5%, Pennsylvania law will automatically trigger a recount.
Fetterman had urged patience, insisting that it was crucial to wait until all ballots were counted to ensure a fair result.
McCormick, who recently spoke to Fox News, expressed confidence in his victory, pointing out that the numbers clearly favor him.
Despite this, Casey has yet to concede, and he emphasized the importance of ensuring that every eligible vote is counted, given the ongoing count of over 100,000 ballots.
Public Reaction to Fetterman’s Remarks
Fetterman’s post quickly drew criticism from both sides of the political spectrum.
Notably, Tesla CEO Elon Musk criticized the senator’s derogatory language, pointing out that calling voters “dip****s” wasn’t a smart strategy for winning them over.
Several others voiced their disapproval, including Republican House candidate Daniel Bocic Martine, who reminded Fetterman that he was insulting potential constituents.
Conservative commentator Scott Pressler also weighed in, warning Fetterman that his comments could alienate Green Party voters in future elections.
What’s Next for the Race?
As the race continues to unfold, both McCormick and Casey are holding their ground.
While McCormick is confident about the outcome, Casey remains focused on the process and the importance of counting every vote.
The situation remains fluid, and with the margin still so tight, it’s unclear what the final result will be.
For now, all eyes are on the state’s election officials as they continue to process ballots and the political landscape in Pennsylvania hangs in the balance.
