Passenger dies in Royal Caribbean ship jail hours after threatening passengers and attacking crew on way to Mexico

A Royal Caribbean passenger’s violent meltdown ended in tragedy just hours after being detained by ship security.

The incident unfolded aboard the Navigator of the Seas during its journey from California’s San Pedro port toward Ensenada, Mexico.

The Out-of-Control Passenger

The chaos began shortly after the ship set sail on December 13, when the unnamed passenger went into a fit of rage.

Christifer Mikhail, a fellow passenger, was caught in the midst of the disturbing scene as the man became increasingly agitated.

The man stripped off his shirt, thrashing around in what seemed like a Hulk-like frenzy.

Mikhail, who was just a few feet away, captured footage of the rampage.

The enraged passenger kicked at a door, shouting profanities, and creating mayhem in the narrow hallway of the ship.

Threats and Escalating Violence

As the situation spiraled out of control, the man allegedly threatened to kill Mikhail and others who witnessed his erratic behavior.

Mikhail recounted the chilling moment, telling FOX11, “The gentleman that was drunk said that he was gonna kill us, and then he started chasing us down the hallway.”

In a desperate attempt to escape, Mikhail described a crew member locking himself in a nearby towel closet to avoid the rampaging man.

Crew Member Attacks and a Desperate Struggle

The violence intensified when the out-of-control passenger physically attacked crew members.

Mikhail recalled seeing the man kick a crew member with his steel-toed boots and punch another, sending him several feet back.

“He could have flicked me and thrown me 30 feet. The guy he punched kind of flew a couple feet back,” Mikhail said, expressing his fear and the chaos that unfolded.

Detained but Too Late

Security personnel on the ship were eventually able to subdue the unruly passenger using pepper spray, zip ties, and handcuffs.

The man was detained and reportedly taken to one of the ship’s two jail cells.

However, tragically, shortly after his detention, he passed away.

A relative of the man confirmed his death, leaving behind a severely autistic child and a fiancé.

A First-Time Cruiser’s Nightmare

Mikhail, a California native, was on his first-ever cruise, celebrating his and his wife’s birthday, as well as their anniversary.

He shared his shock and fear at the unsettling experience with FOX11, recounting how the trip turned into an unexpected nightmare.

Investigation and Royal Caribbean’s Statement

As the investigation continues, Royal Caribbean has yet to release any information about the passenger or the cause of death.

A spokesperson for the cruise line expressed condolences, stating, “We are saddened by the passing of one of our guests.

We offered support to the family and are working with authorities on their investigation.”
