Failure of Headies organizers to reveal the winners in 13 categories has caused widespread outrage.

The 16th annual Headies Awards, held on Sunday at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, USA, drew widespread criticism from viewers as the show’s organizers failed to announce the winners of 13 categories.

Attendees and viewers around the world were taken aback when co-host Osas Ighodaro announced halfway through the presentation that the ceremony had concluded with only about 13 categories remaining to be presented.
After paying close attention, we noticed that not a single award category designated for female performers was shown before the event was unexpectedly and quite abruptly halted around 2:30 am Nigerian time. Several categories, including Best East African Artist of the Year, Best Female Artist, Best Recording, Best Songwriter, Best R&B Single, Best Vocal Performance (Female), and Headies Viewers’ Choice, remained secret.

Best Southern African Artist of the Year, Best Central African Artist of the Year, Best North African Artist of the Year, etc. are just some of the other categories that are up for grabs. Anger has been expressed on social media over the abrupt ending of the event.

Users on social media have speculated that the abrupt ending of the event was due to the venue, the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre’s, schedule constraints.

No explanation was given for the abrupt ending of the event, but the unannounced prizes were eventually distributed via social media.
