Oswin Appollis remains with Polokwane City as Kaizer Chiefs fail to make an official transfer offer

For months, Polokwane City’s rising star Oswin Appollis has been at the center of transfer rumors, with Kaizer Chiefs being one of the clubs heavily linked to him.

However, despite all the speculation, no official offer came from Amakhosi during the January transfer window.

No Chiefs Move for Appollis

Appollis, who has been instrumental in Polokwane City’s impressive season, has notched up three goals in 15 matches, helping the team secure third place in the Betway Premiership.

While his name has been floated around in local transfer discussions, the club has made it clear that they are not keen on selling him, especially to another South African team.

A Move Abroad Could Be on the Cards

Before the current season started, Appollis was reportedly close to signing for a North African club, but the deal fell through at the last minute.

This indicates that if a transfer is on the horizon, it is more likely to be an international move rather than a domestic one.

Given his talent and potential, the young winger might be setting his sights on a European adventure rather than staying in the PSL.

Rise and Shine’s Reluctance to Let Go

Polokwane City head coach Phuti Mohafe revealed that he initially had doubts about Appollis when he first joined the team in 2023.

“When Appollis arrived, I wasn’t convinced he would make an impact,” Mohafe admitted during an interview on Sports Night Live With Andile.

“But I told him he had the talent to play for the national team—he just needed to work on his attitude and fighting spirit.

Since then, he has improved tremendously.”

Now, two seasons in, Appollis has become City’s standout player and has even earned a spot in the Bafana Bafana squad.

Despite the swirling transfer rumors, Mohafe is confident that Appollis remains focused and unaffected by the noise surrounding his future.

Staying at Polokwane City?

While Appollis’ talent makes him a hot prospect, Polokwane City is in no rush to part ways with him.

“From a technical team perspective, we are not even thinking about his replacement,” Mohafe stated.

“We want him here for the long term.

We are building something special at Polokwane City, and he is a crucial part of that vision.”
