Orlando Pirates star Relebohile Mofokeng wins new car after being honored as Gauteng’s top sports personality

Orlando Pirates’ young sensation, Relebohile Mofokeng, is about to receive a brand-new car in recognition of his incredible achievements in South African sports.

The 20-year-old winger, who had an outstanding 2024 season, is being honored by the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture, and Recreation after being named the Gauteng Sport Awards Personality of the Year last November.

Beating Some of South Africa’s Biggest Sporting Names

Mofokeng’s award win was no small feat.

He outshined some of the biggest names in South African sports, including former African 100m record holder Akani Simbine, UFC champion Dricus Du Plessis, two-time Olympic gold medalist Tatjana Schoenmaker, and Bafana Bafana’s captain Ronwen Williams.

His rise to the top has been nothing short of remarkable, solidifying his status as one of the country’s brightest young stars.

A New Set of Wheels for His Achievements

As part of his reward, Mofokeng will be presented with a brand-new car courtesy of the Gauteng Department of Sport and their sponsors, Joma Sport.

The handover is set to take place on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at Bidvest McCarthy VW Westgate in Roodepoort.

Gauteng MEC Matome Chiloane will be personally delivering the prize to the young footballer, marking a major milestone in his career.

A Stellar Season with Orlando Pirates

Mofokeng has enjoyed a standout season with Orlando Pirates, playing 14 league matches and scoring twice.

His talent and consistency on the field have helped his team secure two trophies, including the prestigious MTN8 title, where he made a crucial impact in the final.

His performances also caught the attention of Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos, earning him his first national team call-up.

Interest from Europe Growing

With his rapid rise to prominence, it’s no surprise that Mofokeng is attracting attention from top European clubs.

Reports suggest that several teams are monitoring his progress, and a move abroad could be on the horizon after the 2024/25 season.

If he continues on this trajectory, South Africa could soon see another homegrown talent making waves on the international stage.
