Orlando Pirates appoint Moroccan coach Abdeslam Ouaddou to lead Soweto giants into new era with three year deal

A fresh breeze is blowing through the Orlando Pirates camp as the club enters a new era under newly appointed head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou.

The 46-year-old Moroccan tactician, who previously managed Marumo Gallants, now steps into one of the most high-pressure roles in South African football.

And he’s got some big boots to fill.

Life After Jose Riveiro: A Tough Act to Follow

Ouaddou’s appointment comes on the heels of an incredibly successful run under Jose Riveiro, who earned his place in Bucs folklore.

During his time in charge, Riveiro led the team to five major trophies, including an impressive three consecutive MTN8 titles.

That kind of legacy doesn’t go unnoticed, and fans will be watching closely to see if Ouaddou can keep the winning momentum alive.

Ouaddou Signs Three-Year Deal With the Buccaneers

According to Soccer-Laduma, Ouaddou has agreed to a three-year contract with the Pirates.

This follows a familiar trend — the same contract duration was given to previous managers Riveiro, Micho (Milutin Sredojevic), and Ruud Krol.

A source close to the club confirmed:

“Yes, it’s believed to be a straight three-year deal, running from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2028. That seems to be the standard at the club now.”

Nine New Faces Join the Squad

The Pirates aren’t just shaking things up on the bench — they’ve also made a splash in the transfer market with nine new signings.

The club appears determined to give Ouaddou every tool he needs to hit the ground running.

Among the latest additions is a player Kaizer Chiefs had their eye on, adding a little extra spice to the Soweto rivalry before the new season even begins.

Is Moremi the New Segolela?

There’s already buzz about how the new squad will shape up.

One player in particular, Moremi, is drawing comparisons to former fan favourite Tlou Segolela.

Whether he’ll live up to that legacy remains to be seen, but fans are hopeful.

Big Questions Ahead: Mofokeng, the Captaincy, and Club Strategy

With all these changes, a few major questions still hang in the air:

  • Will Irvin Khoza allow the sale of rising star Relebohile Mofokeng?

  • Who will wear the captain’s armband this season?

  • What style of football will Ouaddou bring to the pitch?
