Nunez’s late double gives Liverpool, down to 10 players, a victory at Newcastle.

Darwin Nunez’s late double secured a comeback victory for a 10-man Liverpool, as they overcame an initial deficit to defeat Newcastle United 2-1 at St James’ Park on Sunday.

The Reds had a shaky start, and their vulnerabilities were exposed in the 25th minute when Anthon Gordon capitalized on a mistake by Trent Alexander-Arnold. The situation worsened for Liverpool as captain Virgil van Dijk received a straight red card for a dangerous tackle on a Newcastle player.

Subsequently, Newcastle dominated the game, consistently creating opportunities as Liverpool appeared to be in a losing position.

In the second half, Liverpool gradually regained their footing. In the 81st minute, Nunez leveled the score for the team. He skillfully received a pass from Diogo Jota and, from a difficult angle, executed a precise low shot beyond Pope.

Buoyed by the goal, Liverpool seized the momentum, and Nunez sealed the remarkable turnaround deep into the five minutes of added time. He calmly slotted the ball past Pope to secure the victory.

This win propelled Liverpool to fourth place in the English Premier League standings after three matches played. Their next challenge will be against Aston Villa at Anfield next Sunday
