Mzansi Youth Choir warms hearts with cover of ‘Fight Song’ [watch]

The Mzansi Youth Choir was established in July 2003 with the aim of providing teenagers and young adults the opportunity to perform locally and internationally. Members of the choir are between the ages of 13 and 24 years old.

Since its inception, the Mzansi Youth Choir has shared the stage with the likes of Sipho “Hotstix” Mabuse, Jonas Gwangwa, Zolani Mahola, Andrea Bocelli, Josh Groban and Beyoncé.

In 2017, they were the only African choir that performed at the International Youth Choir Festival at the Royal Albert Hall and in Royal Festival Hall in London.

They were also the only choir to receive a standing ovation from the crowd.

COVERING RACHEL PLATTEN’S ‘FIGHT SONG’

Taking to Facebook on Friday 4 March, the choir shared that they were moved by Rachel Platten’s hit song Fight Song and so they decided to make their own cover of the song.

 “Adding a bit of Mzansi flair to the world-famous inspirational anthem,” they shared.

“The singer famously wrote this song when she was at a particularly low point in her life.”

“Always remember: There is hope at the end of the tunnel – no matter what, you can make it through.”

A TRIBUTE TO RIKY RICK

The Mzansi Youth Choir joined Lira on stage to pay tribute to hip-hop star Riky Rick on Friday 4 March. Lira had been a judge with the Sidlukotini hitmaker on The Voice South Africa.
