After a tragic incident in Liverpool where a car drove into a flooded area resulting in the deaths of two individuals, a road closure is expected to persist “for an extended duration.”

An ongoing investigation is being conducted following a report received by the police expressing concern for the safety of a man and a woman inside a black Mercedes on Queens Drive in Mossley Hill around 9:20 pm on Saturday.

Both individuals were discovered at the scene and were subsequently transported to a hospital, where they were sadly pronounced deceased. On Monday, a spokesperson from Liverpool City Council expressed condolences and stated, “This unfortunate event is a tragedy, and our sympathies go out to those affected as well as their families. Highway and City Watch personnel from the council collaborated with emergency services during the response. The road is anticipated to remain inaccessible for an extended period while investigations are carried out. We kindly request drivers to continue avoiding the area.”

The authorities have notified the next of kin, and formal identification procedures have been completed, as per the police.

Upon the coroner’s request, Merseyside Police are conducting further examinations of the incident.

The police force is appealing to individuals who were present on Queens Drive between North Mossley Hill Road and Dovedale Road around 9:20 pm on Saturday, witnessed the occurrence, attempted to assist, or possess dashcam footage from their vehicles, to come forward promptly.
