Molly-Mae Hague faces backlash from road safety groups after eating while driving in her luxury Mercedes in Amazon Prime documentary

Molly-Mae Hague has found herself in hot water after being called out by road safety groups for eating while driving in her Amazon Prime documentary series Behind It All.

The influencer was shown enjoying a takeaway meal in her £180,000 Mercedes-Benz 4×4 while traveling at high speeds, sparking concerns over road safety.

Road Safety Campaigners Issue Warnings

Organizations like The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) and IAM RoadSmart didn’t hold back in their criticism.

They highlighted the dangers of distracted driving, with IAM RoadSmart spokesperson Harriet Hernando explaining, “Eating while driving may not be illegal, but it can still result in prosecution if it causes careless driving.”

Hernando detailed how eating behind the wheel could lead to slower reaction times, missed hazards, or even accidents if a driver is forced to brake suddenly.

“Even at 60 mph, a moment’s distraction can result in devastating consequences,” she warned.

Scene from Documentary Sparks Controversy

In the first episode of Behind It All, Molly-Mae is seen ordering a McDonald’s meal at a drive-thru, including a chicken Big Mac, chicken nuggets, and mozzarella dippers.

Moments later, the former Love Island star is shown eating while driving at 61 mph.

Campaigners have labeled this behavior as irresponsible, particularly because the documentary targets a young audience.

Calls for Responsible Driving

RoSPA’s Caitlin Taylor joined the chorus of criticism, urging all drivers to prioritize safety above convenience.

“Distracted driving is a major factor in road collisions.

Eating, drinking, or doing anything that takes your mind or hands off the wheel significantly increases risks,” Taylor said.

She cited data showing that in-vehicle distractions caused hundreds of serious accidents in 2023.

The group also pointed to research from the University of Leeds, which found that drivers who eat behind the wheel have 44% slower reaction times.

This is compounded by the possibility of hot food spills, which could cause sudden, involuntary reactions.

The Legal Implications

Although eating while driving isn’t explicitly illegal, road safety experts warn that police can prosecute drivers for careless driving if they’re found to be distracted.

Offenders risk fines of £100 and three penalty points on their license.

Julie Townsend, a former deputy chief executive of Brake, emphasized that driving requires full concentration: “We can’t treat cars like an extension of our kitchen.

A split-second distraction could cost lives.”

Behind It All: Life Beyond the Headlines

The documentary doesn’t just focus on Molly-Mae’s controversial moments.

It also delves into her personal life, offering an inside look at her breakup with Tommy Fury, her role as a mother to her daughter Bambi, and the pressures of managing her brand, Maebe.

Molly-Mae has described the series as her most honest portrayal yet, revealing vulnerabilities she hasn’t shared before.

The Debate Over Responsibility and Influence

As a prominent public figure with millions of followers, Molly-Mae’s actions have sparked a broader debate about the responsibilities of influencers.

Road safety campaigners hope her mistake serves as a lesson, particularly for young drivers, about the importance of staying focused on the road.

While Molly-Mae hasn’t directly addressed the criticism, it’s clear her documentary has fueled conversations far beyond its intended focus on her personal and professional life.
