Authorities in Missouri are continuing to investigate the death of a 36-year-old nurse who was found unresponsive inside her New London home just weeks after her husband, a licensed anesthesiologist, admitted in court to assaulting another woman in an unrelated case.
The death of Alexandra “Allie” Hummel has drawn public attention because of the timing of the earlier criminal proceedings involving her husband.
However, investigators have not accused him of any crime or wrongdoing in connection with her death.
Emergency Call Leads Responders to New London Home
According to the Ralls County Sheriff’s Office, emergency responders were dispatched to a residence on Lone Cedar Drive on June 23 after receiving a 911 call reporting a medical emergency.
Deputies and members of the New London Fire Department arrived at the property, where Alexandra Hummel was discovered unresponsive.
She was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials subsequently ordered an autopsy, but have released few details while the investigation remains active.
Husband Previously Pleaded Guilty in Separate Assault Case
Court records show that Dr. Andrew Hummel pleaded guilty in March 2026 to two counts of fourth-degree assault, both Class A misdemeanors, stemming from a domestic violence incident that occurred in July 2025.
The charges involved a woman described in court documents as someone with whom he had been in an ongoing romantic relationship.
The case is unrelated to the investigation into Alexandra Hummel’s death.
As part of the plea agreement, Dr. Hummel was required to maintain full-time employment or remain enrolled in school while staying sober.
He was also ordered to complete alcohol and drug evaluations, mental health treatment, domestic violence counseling, and batterer intervention programs.
Hotel Disturbance Led to 2025 Arrest
Police reports indicate that officers responded to a Hilton hotel in St. Louis after receiving reports of a domestic disturbance.
When officers arrived, they reportedly found Dr. Hummel with a cut on his hand and observed blood inside the hotel room.
The alleged victim was later located in a women’s restroom in the hotel lobby with visible injuries, including a swollen lip.
According to police, she claimed the argument escalated into a violent confrontation during which she was repeatedly strangled and struck.
Investigators also interviewed a guest staying in a nearby room, who reported hearing a woman repeatedly scream, “Get off me,” before and after hotel staff were alerted to the disturbance.
No Charges Connected to Nurse’s Death
Although Dr. Hummel’s earlier assault conviction has resurfaced following his wife’s death, law enforcement has stressed that no criminal allegations have been made against him in relation to the ongoing death investigation.
The Ralls County Sheriff’s Office has stated only that Alexandra Hummel’s death remains under investigation and that additional information cannot be released at this stage.
