Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Decides to Wait Until All Votes Are Counted Before Acknowledging Donald Trump’s Election Victory in the U.S.

Claudia Sheinbaum, the newly inaugurated president of Mexico, has opted to wait for the official results of the U.S. election before congratulating Donald Trump on his apparent win.

Speaking at her regular press briefing in Mexico City’s National Palace, Sheinbaum explained that she would hold off on making any public statements until all the states had completed their vote counts.

“I’ve heard that President Trump has won, but we will wait until today to see how the final vote tally goes,” Sheinbaum said.

“It’s important to wait for the official announcement, especially since some states are still counting ballots.”

Despite Trump’s significant lead over Vice President Kamala Harris, Sheinbaum emphasized the importance of waiting until the process was fully completed.

Trump’s Victory Sends Shockwaves Through Mexico

While Sheinbaum remained cautious, Trump’s apparent victory was causing some concern across the border.

The news of his success sent Mexico’s currency, the peso, into a downward spiral.

On Wednesday, the peso dipped to 20.80 per dollar—its lowest point since August 2022.

The peso had been performing slightly better earlier in the week, peaking at 20.26 on Tuesday.

Despite these economic concerns, Sheinbaum reassured Mexican citizens and businesses that there was no need for panic.

“Mexico is a sovereign, independent country, and we will continue to build a strong relationship with the United States,” she said confidently. “There is no cause for worry.”

Latin American Leaders Begin Congratulating Trump

While Sheinbaum chose to wait for the official count, some Latin American leaders were quick to extend their congratulations to Trump.

El Salvador’s president, Nayib Bukele, took to social media to express his support.

“There’s a smell of a new president in the US, and it’s @realDonaldTrump,” Bukele posted on X (formerly Twitter) Thursday night.

As Trump’s lead over Harris became insurmountable, Bukele doubled down, writing: “Congratulations to the President-Elect of the United States of America, @realDonaldTrump. May God bless and guide you.”

Bolsonaro Cheers for Trump’s Comeback

Former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro also threw his weight behind Trump, calling his victory a triumph of “the people’s will.”

On social media, Bolsonaro reflected on Trump’s 2020 defeat and subsequent struggles, saying, “Today, we witness the resurgence of a true warrior.

A man who has risen again after facing brutal opposition, including an unjust judicial persecution.”

Bolsonaro, a long-time ally of Trump, praised the U.S. leader for his resilience and vowed that Trump’s return to office would restore America’s greatness.

With global reactions pouring in, Sheinbaum remains resolute in waiting for the official count before taking any further steps.
