Martin Brundle’s famous Formula One grid walk delivered another memorable moment ahead of the British Grand Prix after an innocent mix-up during a live interview with actor Hugh Grant quickly gained attention online.
The longtime Sky Sports presenter approached the Oscar-nominated actor before the race at Silverstone, but an unexpected misunderstanding over one of Grant’s film roles turned the brief conversation into an awkward exchange that soon circulated across social media.
Confusion Over The Gentleman
Grant, who attended the British Grand Prix as a guest of Ferrari, was among the high-profile celebrities spotted on the grid before lights out.
As Brundle greeted the 65-year-old actor, he asked whether another season of The Gentleman television series was on the way, adding that he had greatly enjoyed the show.
However, Grant politely pointed out that he had not appeared in Netflix’s adaptation of The Gentleman.
Instead, he starred in Guy Ritchie’s 2019 film of the same name, which inspired the later television series.
“I did the film of The Gentleman,” Grant responded. “I haven’t seen the TV series.”
Realizing the mistake, Brundle quickly acknowledged the confusion and replied that the series was worth watching before ending the conversation and moving on to other guests on the grid.
Another Viral Chapter in Brundle’s Famous Grid Walk
The exchange instantly joined the growing list of memorable moments from Brundle’s pre-race interviews, which have become one of Formula One’s most anticipated traditions.
Known for navigating crowded grids while speaking with drivers, celebrities and team personnel, Brundle has often found himself in unpredictable situations that generate widespread discussion online.
The Hugh Grant misunderstanding became one of the standout talking points before Sunday’s race, with fans sharing clips of the interaction across social media platforms.
Lewis Capaldi Reunion Ends on a Better Note
Earlier during the same grid walk, Brundle also reunited with Scottish singer Lewis Capaldi, revisiting another viral incident from the previous Formula One season.
At the 2025 Singapore Grand Prix, Brundle mistakenly interviewed Capaldi’s brother, believing he was speaking to the chart-topping musician.
After realizing the error, he awkwardly moved on, even missing an offered handshake—a moment that quickly spread across the internet.
This time, both men embraced the joke.
Brundle greeted Capaldi by asking where his brother was, prompting the singer to point him out and explain that he was somewhere nearby enjoying the event.
The pair then shared a hug, with Brundle joking that he was not usually good at “man-hugs” but felt this one had gone well.
The lighthearted reunion appeared to put their previous awkward encounter firmly behind them.
Formula One’s Global Popularity Continues to Grow
The celebrity-filled atmosphere at Silverstone reflected Formula One’s growing worldwide appeal, with ticket demand continuing to rise.
Ticket marketplace viagogo, an official partner of the BWT Alpine Formula One Team, reported that ticket purchases for the British Grand Prix increased by 14 percent compared with the previous year.

The company also found that online searches for Formula One race tickets rose by 17 percent following the release of the eighth season of Netflix’s Drive to Survive, underscoring the documentary series’ continuing influence on the sport’s popularity.
Silverstone Strengthens Its International Reputation
Shaun Stewart, Head of Open Distribution and Sports Partnerships at viagogo, said the platform has witnessed remarkable international growth in Formula One interest over recent years.
